Edith Swaim of Talco, Texas passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at 96 years of age. She was born on November 11, 1922, in Deport, Texas the daughter of Jim and Henry Effie (Bailey) Garrett.
Edith graduated from Bogata schools and then on March 4, 1948 she married Ois Swaim in Texarkana, and they moved to Talco. Edith and Ois owned and operated Swaim Grocery in Talco for many years. She attended the Talco Methodist Church, where she served as church secretary; later she moved her membership to the Bogata United Methodist Church as the Talco Church closed. She was very active, putting her love for handwork to good use. Several ladies, meeting weekly to make items to sell at their annual Church Bazar, enabling to help raise monies for a new fellowship hall.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Carol Leake and Annette Swaim; five grandchildren, Bill Dixon, Mandi Kelley, Tony Leake, Sheri Mathis and Christy King; eight great-grandchildren, Blake, Kendall, Kamron, Cody, Wesley, Jacob, Joel and Jace; and a brother-in-law, Gary “Bubs” Swaim. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 67 years, Ois Swaim; her three brothers, Thomas Everett Garrett, Fitzhugh Eugene Garrett and Jim Grant Garrett; and a niece, Carolyn Carleen Damron.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, August 8, 2019 at the Cuthand United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Bogata Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm until the service time.
