Pete McKnight Obituary

James Maurice “Pete” McKnight crossed over from this life to his heavenly home at the age of 86. He was surrounded by his loving family as he completed his journey on this earth. His family and friends find great comfort and joy in the reunion that occurred at 6:15 pm, Friday, May 11, 2018.

Funeral services are scheduled on Monday, May 14th, 2018 at 2PM at Life Tabernacle, Cunningham, Tx. with Frankie Norwood officiating.   Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 13th, 2018 from 6-8 PM at the church.  Wood Funeral Homes, Deport have charge of the arrangements.              

Pete was born to Clarence McKnight and Molly Womack in Rockford on May 12, 1931. He was a graduate of Cunningham High School and attended PJC on a GI Bill. He served on Cunningham and Prairiland School Boards.  He was a lifetime member of Life Tabernacle Church in Cunningham Texas.  During the Korean Conflict, he served in the US Army.  He married the former L’Wanda Oneal June 30, 1951.

He was a cotton farmer, rancher and avid sports fan. He loved to hunt and fish and was well known for his wily basketball moves. He was “Daddy Pete”, a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a very devout Christian man and good friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the love of his life, his wife of 53 years, L’Wanda O’Neal McKnight, daughter, Connie Denise McKnight, sisters Marie Riley and Louise Sugg.                         

 

He leaves to cherish his memory daughter, Fran McKnight King and husband, Gary of Broadway Junction, Honorary son, Jerrod Bankhead of Cunningham;   grandchildren, Johnna Patterson Tekell and husband Daniel of Paris  and Jenna Pynes and husband Justin of Paris; Gage Bankhead of Cunningham; Julie Leonard and husband Steven of Paris;  great-grandkids,  Parker Pynes, Jaxon Pynes, Jameson Tekell, Logan Frazier, Jaden Brown, and Harlin Leonard ,sister and brother-in-law Ann and Rodger “Cotton” Anderson and sister-in-law, Jane O’Neal and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Platinum Home Health and Hospice, and his nurse Rachel Wood for their loving support.
