Betty “Bit” Jean Young was born on November 2, 1950, to Jessie D. Evans and Betty T. Wilson Evans in Clarksville, Texas; she passed at her residence at Carraday of Mt. Vernon at the age of 73.
She is survived by her children, Charles Eric Young (Pam), Rebecca Darlene Crane (RC), Tammy Renee Painter; grandchildren, Megan Sparks (Lauren), Kerry Glasco (Johnathan), Micah Sparks, Jessie Ross (Jordan), Tessa Deal (Kurtis), Aaliyah Painter; sisters, Brenda Yates (Fred), Elizabeth (nicknamed “Suzy” by Betty) Inman (Tony); two great-granddaughters, two nieces, five nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jessica Diane Thompson; brother, Jesse Evans; grandson, Christian Deal; nephew, Danny Yates; close friend, Ray Criswell.
She started school in Denver City, Texas in 1956 and would graduate from Hobbs High in 1969. Betty married Charles Young in 1974; they were married for thirty years.
Betty enjoyed music and woodworking, and time with her family. She loved the Lord and reading her Bible. Her love for people and spirit of hospitality would result in her founding a ministry for women called “Transformation House of Praise.” One who was impacted by her ministry wrote: “Transformation House was a home of love. Betty opened her home and heart to us ladies who needed love, understanding, sober living. With her soft voice that sounded like an angel, she would teach us love – to love ourselves, and most of all the love of Jesus. Because of her, I became closer to Jesus. Most of us ladies had nobody to love us, but Betty showed us love. Without her, most of us would never have the lives we have today.”
Her granddaughter Megan wrote of her: “She loves with her entire heart and only sees the good in people. She loves like Jesus loves, and she was always His arms for the ones who needed to be reached. She brought many lives closer to Jesus and helped mend their hearts and lives back to Him.”
Her ministry for the Lord would continue. When moving into Caraday of Mt. Vernon, she let the love of the Lord shine in her life; the other residents and staff were drawn to her. She had a spirit of true hospitality.
Granddaughter Tessa wrote: “She was a strong woman; when she wanted something to happen, she would make it happen. She turned her own life around so she could help others turn their lives around for the better. She touched many lives and she’ll truly be remembered as she knew no strangers.”
There will be a graveside service at the Bogata Cemetery Pavilion, Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 11:00am under the direction of Wood-Haggard Funeral Home.
