Bobby Dickey Obituary

Robert “Bobby” Donald Dickey, 88 years old of Bogata, TX passed from this earth on February 14, 2020 eager to enter eternal life.  He was born August 11, 1931 to Samuel and Ada (Smith) Dickey in Bay City, TX.

His first attempt to ride a bucking horse in high school wasn’t successful, but that was just the start.  He wanted to ride more and he did.  Before graduating from high school he had claimed two State High School Bareback Championships, one State All-Round Title, a National Bareback Championship and had set the steer wrestling arena record at the State Finals.  At his peak he rode 74 straight bulls, saddle bronc and bareback horses without being thrown.

He earned his Rodeo Cowboy Association card and began competing with professionals before being called to the Korean War during his rookie season.

After completing his military service, rodeo brought him to Red River County but is was the east Texas people that caused him to call it home for more than 60 plus years.  It was here he met his wife of 22 years Cornelia Ragsdill Barker and wife Vernell George Hale.  Bobby and Vernell had been married 32 years at the time of his passing.

Bobby is survived by wife Vernell, brother James Dickey and wife Sally of Billings, MT, son Mickey Barker and wife Susie of Sulphur Springs, TX, son Jimmy Dickey and wife Pam of Greenville, TX and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister Lajuan DeBarbieris and son Kenneth Barker.

He was a talented craftsman, Master Mason and had a loving relationship with God.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate his life at 2PM, Tuesday February 18th at the Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Bogata, TX.
