Dewey McCoy Ward, age 88 of Deport, died in East Texas Medical Center of Clarksville. Saturday July 23, 2011. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Faith Baptist Church with Dr. L.C. Stout officiating. Burial will follow in Sulphur Bluff Cemetery with family members serving as pallbearers. Wood Funeral Homes, Deport have charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends from 6-7pm on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Dewey was born on July 21, 1923 in Saltillo, Texas, the son of Gus and Lillian Tillary Ward. He was a retired insurance agent from New York Life Insurance Company and had pastored churches in both Texas and Mississippi including, First Baptist Churches of Eden, Mississippi and Louise Mississippi, Hope Baptist Church in Neshoba County, Mississippi, and he also started a Baptist Mission in Canton, Mississippi. At the time of his death, Dewey was an active member of Faith Baptist Church in Deport and was known for his musical skills at all the area churches of all faiths. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Hettie Thomas, Annie Mae Hatchell, Curtis Ward, Johnny Ward, Joe Bailey Ward, Frank Ward, and J.C. Ward; and his special friend, Mauna Kidd. Survivors include his children: Amy Ruth Summers of Jackson, Mississippi ; Parker and Michelle Ward of Aurora, Colorado; sisters, Donna Nelson of Kaufman, Ruby Smith of Mesquite, Hazel Brumley of Austin and Erma Ruth Hill and husband, Kenneth of Ennis; sisters-in-law, Edith Ward of Quinlan and Carol Ward of Johntown; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.
