Fern Gibbs Obituary

Ophelia Lafern Gibbs, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, peacefully passed away on January 17, 2024, in Chandler, Texas, at the age of 69. Born on June 28, 1954, in Fresno, California, Fern was a cherished member of her community and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Fern dedicated her life to creating a warm and loving home for her family. As a homemaker, she poured her heart into nurturing her children and grandchildren, leaving an indelible impact on their lives. Her unwavering love and support were a constant source of strength and inspiration for her family, a testament to her remarkable character.

Despite not receiving a diploma, Fern possessed a deep appreciation for knowledge and encouraged her loved ones to pursue their dreams and educational endeavors. She understood the value of education, instilling in her children the importance of lifelong learning.

Fern is survived by her beloved sons: Shane Gibbs, Shannon Gibbs, Sonny Gibbs, and their families. Her legacy lives on through her strong and resilient grandchildren: Allyson Chitsey, Leah Gibbs, Jacob Gibbs, Caroline Gibbs, and great-grandchild Ian Chitsey. She will forever be remembered for the love and guidance she provided to each and every one of them.

In addition to her immediate family, Fern is also survived by her cherished brother, James Lawson, and sister, Anne Lawson. They shared a special bond and were always there for each other throughout life's ups and downs.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents, whose love and teachings shaped the person she became. She now reunites with her late brothers, Calvin and Randle Ward, as well as her step-father, James Lawson, who will welcome her with open arms in eternal peace.

The Gibbs family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Fern’s life at the memorial service, which will be held at the Smith Cemetery in Rosalie, Texas. The service will begin at 3:00pm on Sunday January 28, 2024.

As we mourn the loss of Fern Gibbs, let us remember her for the love and care she showered upon her family. May we find solace in the precious memories and the lasting impact she had on the lives she touched. Ophelia's spirit will live on, forever embedded in the hearts of those who loved her.
