Glen Leon Whitsell

Glen Whitsell of Deport passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 13, 2023.

Glen enjoyed playing pool, playing cards, watching Texas Longhorn football, telling life stories, and being the biggest cut up anyone could imagine. He had two best friends he often talked about, David Davidson and Will Brown. David Davidson helped Glen with everything Glen ever asked of him. Glen would proclaim Will Brown could pray over any problem and the problem would be resolved overnight. In 1982 Glen’s son, David, was born. In 1986 Glen was diagnosed with crippling arthritis. Glen never seemed to let that slow him down. Glen taught David how to fish, took David dove hunting, coached David in little league baseball, and never ever missed a down of football that David played all the way through high school. The real joy of his life came when David and Jessi had children. Glen talked about his grandchildren, Caden and Cayli often and was very proud of them and all their accomplishments and awards.

Glen was survived by his son, David Whitsell and his wife Jessi Whitsell of Deport; two grandchildren, Caden Simpson of Detroit, and Cayli Whitsell of Deport; sisters, LaVoyce Sims, Nila Nelson and husband Larry Nelson; brothers Kenneth Whitsell and Calvin Whitsell, along with many nieces and nephews.

Glen was preceded in death by both of his parents, Leon and Pearl Whitsell of Deport. A special thank you to Glen’s ex-wife, Debbie Cummings, for the care she gave to him during the last few years of his life.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, October 23,2023, at the Pavilion in the Highland Cemetery.
