Hiawatha King Obituary

Hiawatha Lue King, formally of Pattonville, passed away Thursday afternoon June 23, 2022, in Lawton, Oklahoma.  She was born on November 6, 1934, in Bogata, Texas, the daughter of A.L. and Burnice (Roddy) Webster.

Hiawatha attended high school in Clarksville, Texas then went on to obtain her master’s degree from Texas A&M in education. When she married the love of her life, Raymond D. King, on December 21, 1953, she became an Army wife.  Together they traveled all over the US and to Japan for over 20 years then returned to Texas where she taught at Detroit Elementary School. They had just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary when he passed away on December 31, 2020.

Hiawatha is survived by their four children, LTC (retired) Raymond Dwight King, Jr, James Webster King, Dr. Raymona Lue King Bevel, and Victor Lynn King as well as 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Sparks and Nelda Tally. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters Christine Nix, Helen Stanley, Hattie Abernathy, and Bettie Pace.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the Wood Haggard Funeral Home – Bogata.  She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the McCrury Cemetery.
