James Samuel Nichols, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on January 13, 2024, at his residence in Deport, Texas. He was born on September 13, 1936, in Lamar County, Texas, to James Alison and Sudy Mae (Hunt) Nichols. James was 87 years old at the time of his passing.
Throughout his life, James left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him. As a hardworking mechanic in the automotive industry, he dedicated his days to fixing cars and ensuring that everyone's vehicles were in top shape. He approached his work with exceptional skill and attention to detail, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and customers alike.
Outside of work, James was a man of simple pleasures. He found solace and joy in fishing, spending countless hours in nature, patiently waiting for the perfect catch. His love for angling allowed him to connect with the world around him in a unique and serene way.
With James, there was never a dull moment. His warm and friendly nature endeared him to all who crossed his path. He had an extraordinary ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, always leaving a lasting impression. One of his greatest joys in life was telling jokes and making others laugh. James's infectious laughter and kindhearted spirit brought happiness to those around him.
James leaves behind a rich legacy and will be deeply missed by his surviving relatives. He is survived by his loving sons, Samuel Nichols and Terry Nichols; beloved grandchildren, Crystal Burns, Jason Nichols, Becky Pearson, Nathan Long, Chasity Valdez, Shannon Reaves, Ben Perry and Kallie Perry, and the great-grandchildren Leo Martinez, Terri Martinez, Noah Valdez, Samantha Wright, Keeley Burns, Ethan Burns, Elston Burns; two great- great grandchildren Zander Nichols, and Zaylan Nichols, his brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Nanalee Nichols and his sister, Mary Mantooth. He was preceded in death by his parents, his cherished wife Dorothy Nichols, his daughter, Ramona Perry, and his brother, Aaron Nichols.
As we mourn the loss of James Samuel Nichols, we invite family and friends to pay their respects and celebrate his life. A time of visitation will be held on January 19, 2024, at Wood-Haggard Funeral Home in Bogata, Texas, starting at 6:00 pm. A heartfelt funeral service to honor his memory will follow at the same location on January 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm.
James touched the lives of many and will be remembered as a loving father, a cherished grandfather, and a treasured friend. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memories bring comfort to those who mourn his loss.
