It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Earl Strickland. Born on October 18, 1963, in Borger, Texas, James peacefully breathed his last breath with his sister Carla holding his hand on November 10, 2024, at the age of 61, in Johntown, Texas. Son of the late Earl Strickland and Shirley Lucille Nolen Strickland, James leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Growing up, James attended Bogata Elementary and Jr. High before proudly graduating from Rivercrest High School in 1982, where he excelled in various sports, including bowling, golf, cards and particularly as the quarterback for the Rebels. He had a deep passion for the Texas Longhorns
James spent years in the Dallas area, working at Standard Industrial Supply. After a hard day at work, James would return home to his recliner with Sadie, his fur baby, in his lap watching Jeopardy with Ashley and Jennifer. James returned to Johntown in September, 2021, where he found solace and comfort surrounded by family. James is survived by his beloved daughter, Ashley Strickland, as well as his devoted sisters, Carla Strickland and Debby Bonham, and the mother of his daughter, Jennifer Drake, along with numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl, Shirley Lucille and Marshall Beakley and his sister, Randi Beakley Cawley.
A compassionate and kind-hearted soul, James will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Graveside services to celebrate James' life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 16th, at the Smith Cemetery in the Rosalie Community. The family will receive friends at the Wood-Haggard Funeral Home Friday evening 6:00 to 8:00 PM, providing an opportunity for all who loved him to come together and pay their respects. Honorary bearers will be James Richard, Jaylyn, Bradyn, and Kamryn English, Bobby Thompson, , Jerry Merchant, Quincy English, Glen Glosson, Chris Eudy, Craig Clemmons, Jimmy Dickey, and Damon Ward.
In this time of mourning, may we find solace in the memories we shared with James and in the knowledge that he now rests in peace with his good Father, forever embraced by the love of those who have gone before him.
