John David McConnell II of Bogata, died Monday, December 17, 2012 at ETMC of Clarksville. Mr. McConnell was born October 30, 1945 in Dallas, Texas, the son of John David and Russie Franklin McConnell. His education included graduating from Highland Park High School, receiving B.A. Economics from Tulane University, and MBA from University of Dallas with honors. He was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps serving one year in Vietnam (1970-1971) where he was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious services. In July 1973, he became a member of Soka Gakkai International. His career was in management of insurance and investment companies. In August 1998, John moved to Red River County with his mother, and sister, Patty with his rescued dog, Cisco. Preceding him in death were his parents, Russie M. Franklin- McConnell, who he was so devoted to. His father J.David McConnell, his sister, Patty McConnell-Crockett, and his beloved dog, Cisco. He is survived by his sister, Barbara McConnell-Bower of Houston, nephew, Marc Bower of Gunter, and niece Catherine Bower of Houston. He is also survived by his cousins Penny Bishop of Ohio, & Melanie Bishop of Bogata. Melanie lovingly cared for him during his illness, as did her sons, Jeremy and Brandon. John is also survived by Melanie's daughter and many grandchildren. The family appreciates the care given to John by Melanie Bishop and her sons, Brandon and Jeremy. Wood Funeral Homes of Bogata are in charge of cremation arrangements.
