Johnny Wayne Stansell, age 69, of Talco, passed away Friday, January 13th, at UT East Texas Tyler Regional Hospital. He was born to Gordon Darrell and Mildred Elizabeth (Brummet) Stansell.
Johnny was known world wide as a game chicken breeder. He was one of the best in the business with his Gavilan Hatch and Gavilan Grey Hatch roosters. He showed under the banner of the Gavilan Club. The roosters were his true passion in life and most every day you could find Johnny on his chicken farm steadily working.
Johnny absolutely adored and loved his wife Kimberly with all his heart. They were married for 42 years and they spent practically every day together working on the farm. Johnny & Kimberly were a true team. You very seldom saw one with out the other. Johnny loved his family and especially his daughter, Erin, whom he taught at an early age how to feed chickens and play sports. He loved going out to eat every chance he could. He also loved watching golf on tv and keeping up with the Dallas Cowboys. Johnny was a true family man that would do anything he could to make sure his family came first.
Left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy is his wife, Kimberly of Talco, Texas, daughter, Erin Stansell of Talco, Texas; granddaughter, Roan Ingram of Minter, Texas, brother and sister-in-law, Handy and Sue Stansell of Mount Pleasant, Texas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry and Brenda Poynor of Longview, Texas, and Gary Poynor and Maureen McGehee of Holly Lake, Texas; sister-in-law, Pat Stansell of Talco, Texas; nieces and nephews, Debbie Ingram, Amy Stansell, Mandy Stansell, Kristie and Wayne Langston, Kip and Kelly Stansell, David and Robyn Stansell, Kerri Poynor, Scott Poynor, and Misty Justice. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Barbara Stansell, brothers, Jerry and Richard Stansell, and niece, Patty Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 20, 2023 at the Talco Church of Christ with Donnie Duncan and Davin Whatley officiating. Interment will follow at the Talco Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday evening at the Wood-Haggard Funeral Home in Bogata.
