Katie Brown Obituary

Katie M. Brown of Lebanon, Tennessee and formerly of Bogata, Texas, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 95 years of age. She went to sleep Friday and woke up in the arms of Jesus Saturday morning. She was born on September 5, 1924 in Ralls, Texas; the tenth of eleven children born to E.E. and Kate (Presley) McCandless.

Katie was a member of Ripley Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, Texas, First Baptist Church in Bogata, Texas, and Hilldale Baptist Church in Clarksville, Tennessee before moving to Lebanon, Tennessee to be close to her children. She previously worked as a telephone operator, bookkeeper, and school cafeteria employee in Amarillo, Texas; then as a home healthcare services provider in Bogata, Texas in her later years. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her Lord and family. The greatest gift she gave her children was teaching them about Jesus because she knew then, and they know now, that with Him we can face anything. She was an amazing prayer warrior who lifted up her family in prayer faithfully, and truly believed in the power of prayer. She loved to sing in the church choir, taught Sunday School, and helped her husband provide Nursing Home Worship Services during their early retirement years. She loved all children and they loved her. She was an excellent representative of America's Greatest Generation.

She leaves her children: Lorraine and husband Bob Hall of Lebanon, Tennessee, Sharron Wilson of Wichita Falls, Texas, James Alan Brown of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Nita and husband Joe Drozd of Haughton, Louisiana; grandchildren Rebecca and husband Mark Hayes, Robert Bryan Hall, Michael and wife Aimee Wilson, and Dalan Brown; great grandchildren Cassie and husband Blake Stamps, Sophie Hall, Felix Wilson, and Eli Brown; and one great-great grandchild Joseph Blake Stamps (J.B.). She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings, and beloved husband Joseph Davis Brown.

Visitation will be held at Wood Funeral Home in Bogata, Texas at 10:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service at 11:00 at Bogata Cemetery in Bogata, Texas.
