Melba Joyce (Skidmore) Brown

Melba Joyce Skidmore Brown, 76 of Palestine, Texas, formerly of Paris, Texas, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

Melba was born on June 4, 1948, in Childress, Texas, the daughter of Harley and Velma Collins Skidmore. The family later moved to the Cunningham area where she attended school in Cunningham and Deport, Texas. Melba met Jacky Brown at a little coffee shop where she was working in Paris, Texas in 1967. They fell in love and married on April 29, 1967, in Bogata, Texas. Together they had four children and were married 39 years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harley Skidmore, her mother Velma Morris, her stepfather Homer Morris, her sister Patsy Skidmore, her brother Lynn Skidmore and her husband Jacky Brown.

Survivors include her children, Jacky Brown of Paris, daughter Kathy Abrahamson and husband Mike of Palestine, David Brown and wife Tara of Paris, Chad Brown and wife Kim of Leesburg; her brother Harlan Ray Skidmore and wife DJ of Whitney; her sister Ann Skidmore of Bryson; her grandchildren, Robert Ballard and wife Jacy of Sumner, Tyler Brown and wife Marina of Flower Mound, Isaiah Brown, Kali Brown, Angel Brown and Melissa Brown all of Leesburg, Michael Abrahamson and wife Julie of Kyle, Lance Johnson and wife Sahvanna of Corsicana, Paul Abrahamson and wife Adrienne of Roanoke; great-grandchildren Faith Ballard, Gunner Ballard, Evie Brown, Ian Brown, Brandon Abrahamson, Christopher Abrahamson, Ivy Abrahamson, Emily Johnson, Ben Johnson, Maria Johnson, and Olivia Jonson.

The family will receive friends at the Wood-Haggard Funeral Home in Bogata, Texas from 6pm till 8pm on Tuesday, August 20th and the funeral service will be in the Wood-Haggard Chapel on Wednesday August 21st at 11am with burial to follow in the Bogata Cemetery.
