Morris Latham Foster, beloved husband, father, G Daddy, and friend, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024. He was born on October 19, 1951, to Marlin and Billie Mac Foster in Deport, Texas.
Morris grew up in Deport where he was a Boy Scout, played sports, hunted and fished, hauled hay, threw papers, and made friendships that lasted a lifetime. He graduated from Deport High School in 1969 where he joked the whole class made the Top Ten. He attended East Texas State University in Commerce before being accepted into pharmacy school at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford where he made the President’s or Dean’s List each semester.
After graduating from pharmacy school, he became a partner in Buckman Drug Store, Inc. in 1976. There he made lifelong friendships with his business partner, staff, customers, and the morning coffee drinkers. After the store sold in 2008, Morris went to work at Medical Center Family Pharmacy in Mount Pleasant, Texas, where he formed new relationships and enjoyed his last years as a trusted pharmacist. In all, he was a registered pharmacist for 50 years.
Morris could be counted on for sound advice, but only if asked. He was selfless, always putting the good of others before his own. He was a respected leader and had served as President of the Bogata Rodeo Association, member of the Bogata City Council, current President of the Red River County Hospital Authority, and current Chairman of the Board of First United Methodist Church in Bogata, a place he loved. He was also a servant leader in the quiet ways good men are— seeing a job that needed to be done and doing it because it helped a friend or the community.
He was an avid golfer who loved every aspect of the game, whether it was building golf clubs, watching televised golf tournaments, or buying clubs online that were always “a real good bargain.” Some of his happiest times were spent playing golf at Clarksville Country Club and with his Mount Pleasant buddies at various courses.
He loved his family and made them a priority throughout his life, loving them so well that his two daughters looked for these same qualities in their future spouses. He was a wonderful dad— caring, consistent and fair. He would leave work to support them at ballgames or school events and was their first call at any sign of illness for his sound medical advice. He was also a wonderful G Daddy to his grands—attending every event and making them miniature golf clubs to pass on his love of the game.
He is survived by Ginger, his wife of nearly 46 years, and two daughters: Jill Ballantine, husband Drue, and children Sammie and Beckett; Alison Roraback, husband Manley, and children Foster and Charley. Survivors also include a dear sister-in-law Melanie McConnell Klein and beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
