Robert Lee Canfield, age 93 of Bogata, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019 in Clarksville, Texas. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church of Bogata with Pastor George Spears officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM before the service. Burial will follow at the Bogata Cemetery, under the direction of Wood Funeral Home in Bogata.
Robert Lee Canfield was born on February 16, 1926 in “Rural” Mesquite, Texas to Stephen Lee and Sylvia (Vandervort) Canfield. He attended Elementary school in a one room school house in Mesquite. He graduated Mesquite High School and worked on the Pitchfork Ranch and then served in the United States Army under General Patton, and then served in the Entertainment Division, participating in the Army Rodeo circuit. On September 11, 1951 he married Mary Emily Lewis at his aunt’s house in Dallas county. They operated a dairy in Forney, Texas for several years. When the dairy was consumed under eminent domain laws for the construction of Lake Ray Hubbard; Robert and Mary acquired a ranch in Red River County, near Bogata, Texas. He enjoyed Rodeoing, Calf Roping to be specific, He enjoyed Cattle Ranching and was an active member of the First Baptist Church.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Emily Canfield in 1990; his parents, Stephen and Sylvia Canfield: a brother, Allen Canfield.
Surviving family includes, daughter, Sylvia Leggett of Reno, Nevada; daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Othal Spencer of Mount Vernon; granddaughters Emily Christie, Amber McGinley and husband Blake, Bailie Marks and great grandchildren: Hazel Christie, Ty McGinley, Jace McGinley, Sloan Marks.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Alan Hudson, Mason Haynes, Buck Haynes, Bryan Williams, Kevin Williams, Ray Lou Damron; Honorary Pallbearers are, Lem Pierce, L W VanHuss, Johnny Hudson, Lindy Guest, Billy Bellamy, Speedy Roy Wells, Jerry Hutson, Bill Anderson, Jake Smith, Dolan Mankins.
