William Hervey Obituary

William Buford Hervey, born on September 4, 1934, in Bryans Mill, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by the love of his family. A cherished figure in the communities of Johntown and Bogata.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Buford honorably served during the Korean War. Following his military service, he dedicated 25 years of his life to education, making a lasting impact in several school districts, including Channelview ISD, Hull-Daisetta ISD, Sabine ISD, and Rivercrest ISD. Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending time on his farm in Johntown.

Buford will be remembered for his generous spirit and the gift of storytelling, that brought joy to all that knew him. His passion for education and commitment to his students were evident to everyone he came in touch with he was a member of the First Methodist Church of Bogata and dedicated his time to Rosalie Lodge # 527.

 His unwavering devotion extended not only to education but also to his beloved family. Buford treasured his family, he delighted in giving each of his grandchildren and great grandchildren a special nickname, a tradition that reflected his love and joy in being their Pa. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Gale Hervey, his daughter Lynda Woodward and her husband Dean, his son Bo Hervey and his wife Debra, and his cherished grandchildren, Traci Kramer, Trey Woodward, and Kailee Hervey, great grandchildren, Harrison, Hallie, James, Eleanor, and Isla Cate, his sister-in-law, Bobbie Hervey. Buford was preceded in death by his parents, James and Oda Hervey, brothers, James Albert and Norris Wendell Hervey.

Buford's legacy will be honored with a graveside service at Bogata Cemetery Pavilion on December 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather as they reflect on his life, share in the memories he created, and celebrate the profound impact he had on so many.

As we bid farewell to William Buford Hervey, we remember him as an exemplary educator, a storyteller, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, whose devoted spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
